I have a iPod touch home button problem...?

Its a third generation iPod touch. My mother and I opened it up to see if we could fix the touch screen and a little itty bitty golden piece fell out. I'm pretty sure it was the main part of the home button. This is PROBABLY going to be a problem, so... any ideas on how to fix it?
